- Allow modification to suit their needs.
- Facilitate collaboration and innovation.
- Ensure portability.
- Guarantee long-term support.
- Enable result reproduction
- developers
- Greater adoption of our products.
- Insight into how our product is used.
- Insight into who uses our product.
- Enable result reproduction.
- *My amendment: community contributions* (speaker on q from audience: at least in their case not too many contributions and requires work to incorporate PRs)

20 July 2022: [Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment](file://journal/personal/science/2022_07_19_rra_agreement_final.pdf), I. Base [...] principles
> Ensure independence and transparency of the data, infrastructure and criteria necessary for
research assessment and for determining research impacts; in particular by clear and
transparent data collection, algorithms and indicators, by ensuring control and ownership by
the research community over critical infrastructures and tools, and by allowing those assessed
to have access to the data, analyses and criteria used.
How is this fulfilled/guaranteed in the case of Dutch universities, relying on external Software to track and evaluate scientific output.
